ABOUT
I'm a visual artist exploring themes of resilience, togetherness, and nurture. My paintings feature abstract figures and simplified forms that emphasize movement over individual details. Often, I paint Somali women from my own culture, capturing scenes of them working, gathering food, and finding moments of quiet strength. These images reflect qualities I deeply admire and believe are the backbone of many African communities.
Color is essential to my work—it lets me shape forms and bring an energy or presence to each piece. My palette often shifts from subtle tones to bold colours, creating contrast that tells a story on its own. I work with layers of thinned oils, acrylics, and watercolours to build relationships between colours that feel meaningful.
As a self-taught artist, I pull inspiration from contemporary photos, stories, and memories. My art is a blend of the people, moments, and places that have shaped me.
